Modern Fixes. Old-House Know-How.

The bathroom sees more daily use than anywhere else in the home. Between the water heater, hot showers, toilets and faucets, there are plenty of drains to contend with, and it does not take much for a minor issue to turn into a bigger repair when things go wrong.

In Pepperell, you want an experienced hand who is versed in both modern systems and the quirks of older houses. Ferguson Plumbing Design offers just that kind of professional service, from routine maintenance to full installation and heating work.

Services for the Pepperell Home

There is more to plumbing than fixing a toilet or faucet. We handle all kinds of issues: shower and tub hookups, pipe and drain cleaning, garbage disposal connections, and water heater installs. If you are looking to install a new fixture or remove an old one, we can manage the project in concert with the rest of the home’s heating and pipework.

It is best to put an end to a leaky faucet, poor water pressure or a clogged drain before the bill gets higher. We can also assist with residential maintenance or put an inspection on the books if you are in the midst of a remodel, have a new build, or are trying to solve a problem that keeps coming back.

Plumbing and Heating Considerations

You will find a good number of older homes here. Some of the homes date back to the 1840s and 50s, or the period between 1865 and 1900, and are part of the town’s character; nearly half of the pre-1945 properties are even in the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System. With that comes the reality of aging pipes and odd layouts that require a bit more attention when we are doing repairs or installations.

Then there are the local conditions. While many in the area draw from private wells, the public supply comes from five gravel-packed groundwater sources, and the town is aware of the aquifers’ susceptibility. The ground itself can be an issue in places with wet soils or shallow groundwater, something we factor in for any underground work.

And of course, a Massachusetts winter will test exposed lines and water heaters, so keeping up with maintenance is key. We are on hand for gas, boiler and air conditioning needs as well.

Why Choose Us

We have an affinity for this town and its open spaces, not to mention the historic feel and the way the town is tied to the Nashua and Nissitissit Rivers. The Covered Bridge is a well-known sight here, as is the rail trail along the Nashua River for those wanting to get outside.

Our plumbers bring quality workmanship to every job, be it a simple drain cleaning or more extensive heating and piping. We cover Pepperell and the surrounding parts of Southern New Hampshire and Nashua. Give us a call to set up a time when your home requires some attention.

Sound familiar?

What you’re probably seeing

A slow shower or tub drain

Hair and soap, usually. Until it is not, and then it is the line.

Weak water pressure

At one fixture it is the fixture; everywhere, it is the supply.

A dripping faucet or shower

A cartridge or a seat. Cheap to fix, expensive to ignore on a well.

A toilet that runs or rocks

Both are fixable, and both waste more than people expect.

Damp or musty smell

Something is leaking where you cannot see it yet.

Stains on the ceiling below

A bathroom above a finished room announces its leaks downstairs first.

Diagnose first

Bathrooms fail in small, cheap, early ways.

Almost everything that goes wrong in a bathroom is minor at the point you first notice it: a cartridge, a flapper, a wax ring, a partially blocked branch drain. What turns those into expensive jobs is time, because a bathroom sits above a floor and often above a finished ceiling. A slow leak at a supply connection or a failed shower pan will rot a subfloor quietly for a year. We would rather come out for the small version.
How it works

One call. Four steps.

01

Call or request a quote

Tell us the symptom. A person takes the real details, what it is doing, where, and how long it has been going on.
02

We diagnose on-site

$49 dispatch fee. No diagnostic fee if we can see the problem; $99 if we have to break out tools.
03

Upfront price before any work

A firm number before anything starts, and where repair-versus-replace is a close call, both numbers and the honest tradeoff.
04

Guaranteed work

Permitted where code requires it, done to Massachusetts code, and cleaned up after.
What we handle

Fixtures, drains, and everything behind them.

Shower and tub hookups, valve replacement and thermostatic mixing valves. Faucets, sinks and vanities. Toilets: repair, replacement and reset. Branch drain and vent work, including the recurring failures that come from further down the line. Shutoffs and supply lines that have seized and will not close when you need them to.

If you are remodelling, we would rather see the drawings before demolition than solve it in the field afterward. See Remodel & Plumbing Design for how that work runs.

Local conditions

Old layouts, and the water that runs through them.

A good share of Pepperell’s housing predates modern plumbing codes: much of it from the 1840s and 50s or the 1865–1900 period, with nearly half the pre-1945 stock on the state’s historic register. Bathrooms in those houses were added later, often into spaces never designed for them, which is why the venting and drain routing can be unusual and why we look before we cut.

Water matters too. The public supply here draws from five gravel-packed groundwater sources, and many outlying homes are on private wells carrying iron and hardness. Both leave their mark on fixtures and shorten the life of a water heater, which is why scale at the showerhead is worth treating as information rather than an annoyance.

Pricing transparency

What it costs to get us there.

$49 dispatch fee gets a licensed plumber and a stocked truck to your door. No diagnostic fee if we can see the problem. $99 diagnostic if we have to break out tools to find it. After that you get a firm price before any work starts. Nobody here is paid on commission.

More of what we do
Questions we actually get

Straight answers, no runaround.

My shower drains slowly but the sink is fine. Where is the problem?

Almost always local to the shower, hair and soap in the trap or the first few feet of branch drain. If clearing it only buys a few weeks, the branch or the vent is the real issue and we will look further.

Can you replace a shower valve without tearing out the tile?

Often, yes, through the existing opening or from an access panel behind. It depends on the valve and the wall construction. We will tell you before starting whether tile is at risk.

Water pressure is bad in the bathroom only. Why?

Usually corroded supply runs feeding that branch, or an aerator and cartridge full of scale. Whole-house pressure problems are a different animal. That is the main, the pressure-reducing valve, or the pipe itself.

Should I fix the leak or remodel the whole bathroom?

Fix the leak now regardless. Water damage does not wait for the remodel budget. If a remodel is coming within the year, we will tell you what is worth doing twice and what is not.

Will you install fixtures I bought myself?

Yes, with a quick spec review first. Rough-in dimensions vary, and an imported valve with metric connections is a problem you want found on paper rather than mid-install.

What does a bathroom service call cost?

$49 dispatch. No diagnostic fee if we can see the problem, $99 if tools have to come out. Firm price before any work begins.

Small now, or expensive later.

A drip, a slow drain, a running toilet. Save the list up and we will clear it in one dispatch rather than three.
