Acton is a town of villages (West Acton, South Acton, Acton Center, East Acton, North Acton) each with a cluster of older homes near its historic core. But the bulk of Acton’s housing arrived in the great suburban build-out of the 1960s and early ’70s, when subdivisions of capes, splits, and colonials filled in around the villages. Those homes are now sixty years old, and their original plumbing is simply done: galvanized supply lines closed down to a trickle, original cast iron and copper drains, first-generation heating systems replaced once and due again. We open a lot of 1960s Acton walls, and we rarely find surprises anymore. Just the predictable end of good pipe that served its time.
The other end of Acton’s spectrum is newer construction and heavy renovation. Acton’s schools keep demand high, and a lot of those 1960s houses have been gutted, expanded, and rebuilt. That’s where our design side earns its name. Bathroom and kitchen remodels where the plumbing has to be re-thought, not just reconnected, especially when an addition puts a bathroom far from the original stack.
Acton’s municipal water comes from local groundwater wells run by the town’s independent water district, and Acton residents pay closer attention to water quality than almost any town we serve. Some outlying homes remain on private wells. Either way, when an Acton homeowner asks us about filtration, it’s usually an informed question, and it gets an informed answer.
The landscape here is glacial. Much of Acton sits on till, a compact blend of clay and rock that sheds water rather than absorbing it, while other pockets have a far more permeable sandy or gravelly drift. Which one you have changes how water moves around your foundation, and it is the reason a sump, sewer line or drainage complaint near the foundation deserves a proper diagnostic instead of a fix that returns next spring.
Water HeatersSixty-year-old neighborhoods mean a steady cycle of replacements. Plenty of “dead” heaters need a part, not a swap.Tankless Water HeatersRenovated and expanded Acton homes with real hot-water demand are strong tankless candidates. We size honestly.Mass Save RebatesActon homeowners upgrading heating and hot water leave rebate money unclaimed every year. We make sure yours isn’t.Water TreatmentWhether you’re on the district’s water or a private well, we test first and recommend only what the results support.Remodel & Plumbing DesignActon’s renovation market is one of the busiest in our area. When the bathroom moves, the plumbing design matters as much as the tile.Drain RepairSixty years of use in original drain lines catches up. We scope it so you know what you’re working with.
Almost certainly original galvanized supply pipe, rusting shut from the inside. It doesn’t get better. We can confirm it quickly and give you a straight price on repiping the runs that matter most.
Yes. That’s the “Design” in Ferguson Plumbing Design. We do the layout and rough plumbing thinking up front, so the finished bathroom works as well as it looks. Remodel plumbing is a core service for us in Acton.
Acton residents ask this more than any town we serve, and it deserves a real answer: get the water tested. We test first and recommend treatment only when results support it, on district water or a private well.
$49 dispatch. No diagnostic fee if we can see the problem; $99 if we need tools to find it. Repair price quoted before we start.
